Meet our Spiritual Directors

The journey toward God is not meant to be a solitary one. We will help you find a director who is a good fit.

Our spiritual directors work from a variety of perspectives, and we welcome people of all cultures, genders, sexual orientations, faith traditions, and races.

We seek to provide a safe non-judgmental place where you feel comfortable sharing your story.

All of our Spiritual Directors have graduated from established spiritual direction programs and are committed to continued learning.

We require our spiritual directors to be in spiritual direction themselves, both personally and professionally.

Our Spiritual Directors have committed to abide by the Spiritual Directors International Guidelines for Ethical Conduct.

Sr. Theresa Rutty, RSM

Spiritual Director

Accompanying people in their walk with the Lord is a true joy for me. I have been accompanying folks through the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius since 2014.

My first experience with the Exercises was in 1992 when I made the 19th Annotation of the Exercises. In 2008, I made the 30-day retreat at the Jesuit Retreat Center in Parma, OH.

I ministered for 15 years in Chile, so I am bi-lingual and have a special place in my heart for those of the Hispanic culture. Upon returning from Chile in 2011, I began the 3-year training program for leading people in the Exercises, which I am able to do in both languages.

In 2019, after three women asked me to be their spiritual director, I began a two-year program in Syracuse for spiritual directors.

I live at St. Stanislaus Convent in Rochester. We have a lovely, enclosed porch which is very private. I meet with people there for the Exercises and Spiritual Direction. I schedule directees juggling their availability as well as my own.
